Comeback Medvedev Wins First Trophy in Nearly 30 Months

Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging year, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

It is Medvedev's initial championship after the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt after that period of the previous year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my both daughters together, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his last six finals, including in that event in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on court had prompted observers to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.

However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and play assertively, backed up by an improved service.

He fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, winning four of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players traded break points in the second set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 early opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he secured victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
