Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then located multiple other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior political figure commented the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
